Where this will be accepted is still unclear, but it is something I came across during my time with Play Therapy, that seems very appropriate for Recreation Therapy / Therapeutic Recreation (RT / TR) and possibly some forms of RPG Therapy. It might only be applicable for mental health clients. I ran it by several professors, and facilities managers, and they were intrigued, but unable to provide further clarification. I welcome additional feedback from others.
While listening to some research on neurological music therapy program descriptions, I was struck by the overlap of the RPG Therapy programs as a very interdisciplinary delivery of services...
Here is a list of some of the most asked for research content created by RPG Research founder Hawke Robinson. There are hundreds of other research pieces on this site, but these are a good starting point for many.
I was running around town trying to track down various books for my son and others today. While I was at the downtown Riverside Mall en route to the Auntie's book store there (they had one of the books I needed on hold for me), I noted a store I had not seen before calling itself "Calendar Club Go Games". I decided to find out if they carried any role-playing games...
Debriefing is a somewhat controversial topic in role-playing communities today. While some individuals feel that games should remain distinct from the mundane world and debriefing is an unnecessary complication, many role-players have grown concerned about difficulties in the process of transitioning between intense game experiences back to mundane life.[1]
Still going to be a while before can test these hypotheses, but here are some ideas about potential benefits and uses of different RPG formats for different population needs. If you have ideas, corrections, suggestions, additions, please do comment to help add to the list for future potential testing inclusion.
The front page of rpgresearch.com provides an overview of potential topics to research. This page will attempt to define these in a bit more detail.
A lot of larps are either more combat oriented or more freeform oriented. We're looking for something that is as close to a heroic, "good guys only", tabletop role-playing game, but includes moving around physically, but does not allow any physical contact, and isn't overly focused on combat. Anyone know of something actually published, with adventures, that fits these criteria? This is for atrisk and incarcerated populations.
Therapeutic Tabletop Game is designed to engage kids who are practicing perspective taking, creative problem solving, communication and collaboration skills by creating a fun opportunity for group storytelling in a highly motivating fictional setting.

Variations of this happen so often that I generally don't bother posting about it anymore. Typically anywhere from once per month to once per week, I encounter something in the ballpark of these negative attitudes about role-playing gamers/gaming from the inculcated myths. But this past Friday was exceptional, with 3 separate families forbidding their children!
I need 2 more panelists to join me on the educational and/or therapeutic benefits of RPGs at ZoeCon next month. Anyone available?
These are brief excerpts from some of my papers on the neuroscience of learning and relevance to role-playing games. Complete versions are available to Patreon supporters, research staff and RPG.Education students.
Here is a summary of many observations I have made over the decades through various experiments in trying to optimize the RPG experience. This is from a huge pile of hundreds of documents I have written, spanning over 15+ years of research (and nearly 40 years of RPG experience). It will likely take me a year or more to finish integrating all that information into this document. All of the placeholder topics I currently have documents to fill in the blanks, but I time is the challenge in doing so. Bit by bit I am uploading all that content to here.
