Quest! Therapeutic Tabletop Game is designed to engage kids who are practicing perspective taking, creative problem solving, communication and collaboration skills by creating a fun opportunity for group storytelling in a highly motivating fictional setting. The child will create a character or avatar that allows her to explore choices and consequences in a safe environment designed to improve frustration tolerance and flexible thinking and improve generalization of skills. Social interaction is incentivized with a token system that allows the whole group to earn bonuses in each leg of their collective journey. 
 
IMPORTANT 
The participants should be able to understand how to follow directions, participate storytelling activities and remain with the group to follow the collective story. Participants may be working on higher level social / pragmatic language skills such as determining cause and effect, making inferences, and understanding and using figurative language. 
 
Participants may be working on social deduction and determining if a character is telling the truth, and practicing looking beyond what is given and fill in information that is missing. Participants may be working on sequencing that requires that a participant be able to put events or timelines in a logical order. Participants may be working on following the rules of conversation with multiple people (taking turns sharing ideas, staying on topic, etc.) 
 
Participants may be working on abstract reasoning, awareness, and executive functions (self-monitoring, planning and problem solving).
 
Duration of Program
The program will run for 6 consecutive weeks, 1 hour per week. The first week of the program, the participants will develop their character. Each of the following 5 weeks, participants will be given a specific goal for that day of the game.

Although people with Autism benefit from social skills training, most programs use the ABA model, work with kids who need rote practice, and are primarily focused on behavioral stabilization. There is a gap in services for kids who need more nuanced social skill and friendship development. The Quest! Program is the first original tabletop role playing game (RPG) designed to encourage more sophisticated social behavior. It’s therapeutically adaptable and easy to use in group settings.
